SBCA Charity Shield 2005 |

The three Shropshire clubs gathered at Lilleshall on 20 August for a beautifully sunny afternoon of friendly but very competitive bowling. The day started with 'spider' for a donated bottle of whisky - the picture shows the 48 bowlers converging on the jack to determine the winner. |

SBCA Chairman, Mike Caird, acted as competition secretary for the day as well as putting up some very useful woods to support the webmaster's rink. The bottles are the prizes for the winning rink ... not Mike's inter-game refreshment! |

Following the match the players enjoyed a magnificent finger buffet assembled entirely from donated items. |

The superb weather (not as forecast!) allowed the players to dine outside and take in the view of Lilleshall Hall. |

Mike used the occasion to present a small salver to Peter Attwood in recognition of his work for the Association since it was founded in 1991, until stepping down in 2004 in order to concentrate on work in connection with the forthcoming Shrewsbury Indoor Bowling Centre. |

Captain Grenville Watton received the Shield as Lilleshall recorded their third win in four years, scoring 38 points to St Michael's 34 points and Telford's 24 points. |
More importantly, a record £332 was raised, which this year will be donated to the Newport Cricket Club's Sri Lanka Tsunami Relief Appeal Fund. For the past few years Newport Cricket Club has had a Sri Lankan professional - Rasika. He was at home in Sri Lanka on Boxing Day 2004 and witnessed the devastation first-hand. Newport Cricket Club established their fund soon afterwards and it has already raised many thousands of pounds. The SBCA is pleased and proud to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.
