Ship-Wrecked Bowlers |
Heard from our then President, Peter Attwood a good few years ago.
Three Lilleshall bowlers were ship-wrecked, but after many hours in the water managed to make their way to shore on a deserted island. For many years they survived, living on the flora and fauna of the island.
One day, one of them spotted a small, bright object floating just off shore and swam out to fetch it. It was an intricately carved brass lamp. He rubbed it hard to remove the tarnish and suddenly a genie appeared.
"I can grant you three wishes," he said.
Being good friends and with the inherent good manners of bowlers the three agreed they should have one wish each.
"I'd wish I was in Australia!" said the first, "My daughter moved there fifteen years ago and I've never seen her since."
"So be it!" said the genie - and the first bowler was gone.
The second bowler - very keen - said "I'd like to be Captain of Lilleshall on a bright, sunny day on our Green. Forty-nine shots up going into the last end against Telford!"
"So be it!" said the genie - and he was gone.
The last bowler, who was not so bright, looked around at the lonely island and said, "You know, those two are my best friends in the whole world, I wish they were back here" ...
