Two Bowlers

Heard from our then Chairman, Frank Hill, on tour.

Two old bowlers were sitting in the sun at the corner of the green reminiscing about the Club history. The conversation moved on to their increasing age and the inevitable time when they would move on the the great bowling club in the sky.

"I wonder if they play bowls in heaven?" said Bert

"I hope so" said Fred

"I'd like to know now - but there's no way to do that." said Bert.

As the conversation continued they decided that whichever of them should die first would make the utmost effort to contact the other and inform them of the bowling situation.

Time passed - as it does in these jokes - and eventually Fred passed on. Bert was very upset and used to sit for long hours by himself on the bench they had shared at the corner of the green. Then one day a litte robin hopped down and perched on the arm of the bench.

"Bert", said a voice, "BERT!"

Bert looked around but no-one was near. Then he realised that the voice came from the bird.

"Bert - it's me, Fred" said the robin - "you know we said we'd try to get in touch ... we'll here I am."

"Fred! - that's amazing - where are you?"

"Heaven you twit - what sort of life do you think I led." said the robin, aggrieved.

"Sorry! What's the bowling like then?"

"Well its good news and bad news - there is bowling, everyone is very friendly, the greens are fast and true and the sun is always shining."

"That sounds great" said Bert - "but you said there was good and bad news - what's bad about that?

"Ah!" said the robin ... "You're leading for me on Friday!"
